Halo 4 Assault And Battle Rifle Replicas - WIP by sarlume Halo 4 Assault And Battle Rifle Replicas - WIP by sarlume
I started these last minute as Christmas presents for my two boys, after realizing that money just wouldn't stretch far enough to get em everything I wanted to get em.  I didn't finish them 100%, but I felt they were finished enough to present them on Christmas, and finish them on down the line.

Brenden still hasn't put his assault rifle down. :aww:

They were made from EVA anti-fatigue floor mats, in two layers.  Sandwiched in between was a third layer comprised of a block of wood held in place with more of the foam to keep it rigid, and to add a bit of weight.  I did leave an opening in that middle layer to make room for a removable clip held in place with Velcro.  Now I need to seal them, paint them, and add orange tape to the barrels.  (Plus I need one flashlight for that assault rifle...)  I will post more once I get them truly finished. ^^

Pretty sure I'm in line to make a whole arsenal of Halo weapons...  Now I want one...but what to make first?  Sniper rifle? O.O...

I have a wall of Halo gun I made myself, notably a sniper in my gallery. You might like it. I saw your gallery by the way and I am blown away!

Oh, I've seen those!  Nice work. :)  Thank you very much for the kind praise!  Lost many nights of sleep just to get it to this point. ^^;

Just make sure they've got a bright orange muzzle extension.  Kids are covering them up or cutting them off so they look more realistic.  Problem is they look more realistic to any police officer that sees them, then somebody gets hurt.  Not long ago a 12 yr old or so kid was shot and killed with a modified plastic gun.  He'd painted over the orange tip on the barrel to make it more "awesome".  Police saw him walking on the street late at night and pulled down on him.  He was ordered to drop the weapon and get face-down on the sidewalk.  Instead he turned around while bringing up his "weapon".  Result - one dead kid and a couple of traumatized officers.  All so the kid could look "cool".

Sorry, one of my soapbox rants.

No, I heard about that!  Ugh.  I did mention the orange tip in my description, though.

They have been instructed against pointing them (even with the orange tips) at any strangers, and I don't mind adding to my collection if the tips ever get removed.  Either way, these are costume props, so they won't be too likely to be played with on a daily basis.

Removing the tip thing is happening more and more often and it's a pet peeve of mine.  I have a thing about kids being harmed, especially for something like this, I mean it's totally preventable.  So I took this as an opportunity to get on my hobby horse and ride.  Certainly not saying this would happen with you.  It's just we know kids don't consider things like this, and too many parents don't consider it either.

I just want to scream every time I see a parent wailing on TV about how their kid didn't deserve to die, "It was just a toy!  How can the police tell me they killed my baby!  It was just a toy!"  I just want to scream at them!

And yeah, I'm one of those people that call 911 and report children in a car that are unrestrained.  "It won't happen to me, we're just going a couple of blocks".  Well, statistics and fate say it's going to happen to someone, and fate doesn't care where you are going.

Kids.  I can't have them, but I can try and protect them.

Hold on, I didn't say anything about my boys being unrestrained in the car.  They wear their belt no matter what.  I am merely saying that I have taken the precautions that I can make, and I have no problem taking them away should I need to.  I'm not saying it won't happen to me or my boys, only that we take things like this seriously.

Costuming is what I do, so this is not our first rodeo.  Thank you for your concern though; I can definitely understand the helplessness of watching things happen that could have been prevented. :)
